Heritage Program – Artist: Nancy Akerly

Sister Bay Historical Society is again sponsoring the Heritage Program during the summer of 2023. Each Saturday beginning June 24 artists display their work. The Programs run Saturday morning during the Farmers Market at the Corner of The Past Museum. So, it is an opportunity to buy fresh produce and enjoy an artist’s work.                            

August 12 will feature Nancy Akerly – Paper Artist.

Nancy Akerly learned origami at a Saturday Park District Program at the age of 8.  She used origami in her teaching for over 40 years, also exhibited in numerous galleries, schools, libraries, and universities Her technique includes marbling and hand-made or hand-screened papers.   She does both traditional Cloud Painting, Ebru Turkish Marbling, and the classic European Marbling designs of the 17-19th centuries, plus some innovative modern marbling variations.

She has taught classes in Cartonnage Box Making, Bookbinding, Marbling, and Origami throughout the Midwestern United States, Taiwan, and Germany, focusing lately on classes at The Clearing.  Her work can be found in local galleries, including The Glass Door Studio in Sister Bay, The Shop at Sievers, Washington Island, and The Clearing Book Store.
