Before the automobile made its appearance in Sister Bay, several blacksmith shops were active in the area. It was an essential industry in the era of horse-drawn carriages, buggies, and farm horses. The Alex and Emma Anderson farm also had a blacksmith shop as part of their 80 acres.

The blacksmith shop at the Corner of the Past is an old log building that once housed animals and was part of Don “Yukon” Erickson’s Appalachia farm on Scandia Road.
